Chiang Mai X-Centre for Extreme Off Road Sports
The bungy jump grounds are nestled amongst the trees on the banks of a small lake not far from Jomtien Beach. Surrounded by attractive gardens the huge bungy tower dominates the scene thrusting up and "leaning" out so that the tip is 55 metres above the water. If you think it looks high from the ground wait until you are standing at the top. Unlike standing on top of a building where you have obvious evidence of a supporting structure around you, standing on the platform at the top of the tower creates an illusion of being suspended in mid air. This illusion intensifies the feeling of height and can cause the adreneline to surge before you've even stepped up to the ledge !

The Bungy Experience

Planning : The first thing to do is to plan your jump with our staff. Choose between a tandem or solo jump and then describe how far short of the water you want to stop or if you wish to do a "water-touch" tell the jumpmaster how deep you'd like to be dunked in the lake. They can organise this with remarkable precision.

If you are a little nervous about making the jump alone tell the jumpmaster and a staff member will tandem jump with you. It sometimes helps boost confidence doing it with an experienced jumper.

If you wish to take your time before jumping then the Jungle Bungy Bar is a great place to relax for for both jumpers and spectators. Maybe have a little dutch courage first and just let the staff know when you are ready to go.

The Weigh-In : Next comes the weigh-in. There is a lower weight limit of 35kg but as yet we have not ever met anyone too heavy so if you are worried that you'll be unable to jump its very unlikely and you may even be one of our revered record-breakers ! Our staff will weigh you, fit you with your leg-harness and attach the cords. The jump plan is recorded and coordinated between ground staff and your jumpmaster before the ascent begins.
The Ascent : Once you are seated in the lift the cage, your slow ascent to 165 feet will begin. Quite an experience in itself, the ride to the top of the tower is smooth and silent. Marvel at the 360° view as you rise above the trees or, if you dare, look over the edge and watch the spectators shrink in size. If you'd rather forget how high you are, the jumpmasters are experts at making small talk to keep your mind off such things.
The Biggest Step : When the lift finally reaches the top the jumpmaster will invite you to stand and move to the ledge. The platform is solid and stable with stout railings to hold onto while you stand and mentally prepare yourself so there is no risk that you will fall before you are ready. Take as long as you like to build up the nerve you need or simply to savour the moment. For first timers feeling the pressure we recommend that they don't spend too much time thinking about it or looking down - it gets harder the longer you put it off. Tell the jumpmaster when you are ready and he will count you down ... 1....2....3.....bungeeeeeee .
The Feeling : The initial descent is an amazing rush. You see the lake's surface screaming up to meet you and there's nothing you can do about it. But it happens so fast that before you have time to get scared you will feel the bungy gradually take up the slack and start to slow you down. By the time you get down to the lake surface you are moving very slow and finally you stop, hang motionless for one second, then feel the bungy start to pull you back into the air. The acceleration is slow at first but builds quickly until you're positively rocketing back towards the sky. Any fear has now been replaced by pure exhilaration which is just as well as you will be bouncing up and down for quite some time.

Back to Earth :
The moment you stop bouncing around the bungy platform will descend to about half way up the tower which has the effect of bringing you close to the landing jetty. Simply take hold of the end of a pole held out by staff and they will lower you in and lay you gently on to a padded mat where the bungy harness will be removed in seconds. Stand up and your feet will be on the ground but your head won't be. In fact it sometimes takes days for a "bungy grin" to fade.

The Memories :
Not everyone can pluck up the courage to do a bungy jump and thats why each jumper is awarded a "Certificate of Courage" signed by their jumpmaster as proof that they are one of the special few. But thats not the only item to remember your experience by. Your whole jump from weigh-in to certificate award will have been recorded by still camera and on video so you can re-live the event whenever you feel like it. And once you are a certified bungy jumper you can choose from a range of T-shirts and caps to wear proudly wherever you go and if you do four or more jumps then you qualify for the Jungle Bungy Jump Elite shirt.
